Material Overview
POM-C SD is a static-dissipative acetal copolymer engineered to safely dissipate electrostatic charges while maintaining the mechanical strength, dimensional stability, and machinability of standard POM-C (Acetal Copolymer). Unlike unfilled copolymer acetal, which is electrically insulative, POM-C SD incorporates a controlled conductive additive that enables predictable static dissipation — an essential requirement in ESD-sensitive manufacturing environments. Ready Plastics stocks POM-C SD sheet for semiconductor processing, electronics manufacturing, and cleanroom applications.
In environments where electrostatic discharge (ESD) poses a risk to sensitive components or processes, material selection is critical. POM-C SD provides a surface resistivity in the static-dissipative range, allowing accumulated static charges to bleed off at a controlled rate — fast enough to prevent harmful discharge events, slow enough to avoid being classified as conductive. This makes it suitable for wafer-handling equipment, PCB fixtures, electronic assembly tooling, and cleanroom material-handling components where both static control and precise mechanical performance are required.
Mechanical and dimensional performance. POM-C SD retains the core benefits of the POM-C base resin: low moisture absorption, dimensional stability, and excellent machinability. It machines cleanly on conventional CNC and manual equipment, allowing precise fabrication of complex components to tight tolerances. For full electrical and mechanical property data, consult the datasheet.
Sister grades. For wear-focused applications without ESD requirements, POM-C Moly and POM-C PTFE provide internal lubrication for reduced friction and extended wear life. For impact resistance, see POM-C MT. For the highest mechanical strength in the acetal family, see POM-H (Acetal Homopolymer).
Frequently Asked Questions
POM-C SD is a static-dissipative grade of acetal copolymer containing a controlled conductive additive that allows electrostatic charges to safely dissipate. It maintains the mechanical strength, dimensional stability, and machinability of standard POM-C, making it suitable for ESD-sensitive environments such as semiconductor processing, electronics manufacturing, and cleanroom applications.
Standard POM-C is electrically insulative, with a surface resistivity greater than 10¹³ Ω. POM-C SD incorporates a conductive additive to bring the surface resistivity into the static-dissipative range, enabling predictable static charge bleed-off. Mechanically and dimensionally, both grades perform similarly.
POM-C SD is designed for ESD-sensitive manufacturing environments where electrostatic buildup can damage sensitive components or disrupt processes. Typical uses include wafer-handling equipment, PCB fixtures, electronic assembly tooling, cleanroom material handling, and semiconductor processing equipment.
Yes. POM-C SD machines similarly to standard POM-C on conventional CNC and manual equipment. The conductive additive does not significantly alter machinability, and the material holds tight dimensional tolerances with clean surface finishes.
POM-C SD is commonly used in cleanroom and controlled manufacturing environments because it combines static dissipation with low outgassing, dimensional stability, and the clean machinability expected of acetal copolymer. For application-specific cleanroom compatibility requirements, consult the datasheet and your process guidelines.
